Program Description
This day-long event will train participants to effectively use EMDR Therapy with military and combat veterans. Participants will receive information on military culture, phases of deployment, risk and protective factors for combat stress exposure, and the unique characteristics of combat veterans and their families. The training presentation will link this material to each of the eight phases of the Standard EMDR Protocol. Video examples will be included to demonstrate effective EMDR Therapy practice with this population.
Opportunities for questions and discussion will be provided for both on-site and online participants.
This training is specifically designed to equip community-based mental health clinicians previously trained in EMDR Therapy to serve US veterans and their families through the recently developed VA Patient-Centered Community Care (PC3) program. EMDR Therapy has been recognized and endorsed by the US Veterans Administration & Department of Defense as an evidence-based practice since 2003.
PC3 is a Congressionally-mandated, nationwide VA program that provides eligible veterans access to care when the local VA medical facility lacks available specialists, has long wait times, or is geographically inaccessible. PC3 is the VA method of purchasing care from community-based providers. The Choice Program is a temporary supplement to PC3 that will provide more flexibility for veterans in accessing care until it expires in August of 2017.
